Rear drum brake cable to rod conversion..

Has anyone seen or tried the cable to rod conversion for the rear drum brake used with rear sets? RGM is redesigning there's & it's not not available yet. I'm curious as to how it works. Any pictures??? New re-lined shoes from Vintage Brake and cleaned up drum by a friend here in Fullerton who is a well known Indian motorcycle restorer/ machinest extrordanair should be all I need but I'm still interested in how the rod system works.

Youd have to design the angle of the rod to always remain parallel to the swingarm or you'd have issues; other than that, shouldn't be too muchj rocklet science in it...

I think the reason for the cable sheath is to protect where the cable passes through the footrest mount. Or else the cable would wear through the aluminum, no?

If you follow this link you will see the RGM setup on my 74 Commando. It took a little doing to get it right. The brake pedal sent initially was for the brake cable and would not work with the brake rod. The did send me the correct one after emailing back and forth about the problem. They were very helpful in sorting it out, but I still had to make a tab and weld it on the bottom of the pedal to be able to set the pedal position. You can see what I did in the photos. In the photos of the two pedals, the cable pedal is on top. The lower pedal is for the rod and shows the tab prior to welding it on. A little silver paint and it can't be noticed.

My guess is the redesign you mention might be to the brake pedal as there is no way the pedal that came with the kit would work..

Ludwig, I do see what you mean, but look at the first photo. The rod just barely clears the isolastic mount for the muffler, hence the offset at the arm.

Also, I eventually removed the brake light switch and mounting plate. I now rely on the switch to the front disc.
