I am going to order the CNW 520 chain conversion kit and install new brake shoes at that time. I see that Old Britts carries Ferodo and Emgo shoes. It wouldn't occur to me to use Emgo over Ferodo but does anyone have info that would indicate that the Ferodo is NOT the best choice? Is there another brand that is more effective?

Mike,
I installed Ferrado rear shoes on my 72 from Old Britts in 2008.
1600 miles later still strong stoppers no problems to report.
Install w/ 2 new springs and stand on brake pedal when you cinch up the drivers side stubby axel to center the shoes.
Would replace w/ the same things again.

Another option is to have your old shoes re-lined by Mike Morse at Vintage Brake. He'll radius the linings to match the inside diameter of your drum to maximize brake surface. He does all of my brakes.

P.S. Mike uses mostly Ferodo linings.

When I ordered a 520 drum/sprocket I sent it and the rest of the old rear brake (shoes and backing plate) to Vintage Brake. I now have an unbelievably good rear brake. Very progressive, firm pedal without locking up too quickly. Some mods are good. This one I'd put in the excellent category. Michael Morse KNOWS brakes.
