its not just the clutch that needs adjusting. I am guessing you are adjusting the cable and the adjuster in the center of the clutch hub and have the correct free play. However, a primary chain that is too tight can put tension on the g'box main shaft and cause it to drag on the sleeve gear and cause shifting problems. Likewise, adjusting the rear drive chain can pull the sleeve gear against the g'box main shaft, causing the same problem. Primary and drive chain both need to be adjusted properly in order to work together, and adjusting one with the other can cause poor shifting.
I bought an older k bike when the Norton fettling started taking too much time, but the transmission on it is not even close to being as sweet shifting as the AMC g'box. As much as i love the push-button on the k when it is time to go to work, the Norton is my favorite bike to ride!
