Rear brake drum / sprocket bearing ?.

Have just pulled the back wheel off my bike, in the brake drum there is a recess that very much looks as though it should have a bearing in it, yet it does not.

The parts manual does not show a bearing, reading other topics on this board mention a total of five bearings in the wheels (6203/4230), is it different in my 1970 drum model ?.

Bought the bike last week, started pulling it down right away.

This model has the drum bolting to the hub ( not the rubber set up on the newer model bikes ).

The 1970 Commando only has 2 bearings in the rear hub. The drum/sprocket is bolted to the hub (3 long sleeve nuts). The later models (1971 on) have a drum/sprocket with a double row bearing in it.

Also there would be nothing to support the dummy axle fitted behind it.

There is no bearing in the "bolt-on" pre-'71 brake drum.
