Rear Brake Drum Paddles

I seem to remember something about the riveted paddles. I can't remember if they are good or bad. Early or late?

Only thing that matters is that their flats are square to the cushions
and they don't twist to a good test torque.

Flats are square to the cushion? Are you talking about my drum or my couch?

How does one change the paddles without changing the drum? Or is it even possible?

Carefully drill out rivets and replace. Probably never happens as the sprocket will probably be worn before anything goes wrong with the paddles.

I had to replace a drum last year after the paddles came loose. These cast iron sprockets tend to last a long time. In my case longer than the paddles.

Hmmm, I've seen more worn sprockets than loose paddles.

What you're remembering is that the early type was a bolt in version and it is a recommended upgrade to go to the rivet type as you have.

Thank you. My memory can always use a little assistance.
