Put the rear axle drum assembly back together today. New tire as well
What a difference. The bike was neglected and sat for 20 some years. I had the engine and trans redone and have been riding it but there is a ways to go.
The cush pads in the rear were gone, 30 year old tire and junk bearings.
The rear is now tight and rides like it should. The front is next. Too bad its getting cold. I am really getting into this machine.
My HD has been sitting for more than a month. No interest in it anymore. Something about running vintage.
FWIW it started on the first kick EVERY time I stopped today.
I like to be different.

congratulations Mike!

It sounds like it is really coming together now.

New cush rubbers and new tire?

Have you done any upgrading to the electronics, EI, etc?

Still running your original Amal concentrics?

Electronics? Nope, 2 Amals and I like the way it runs. Started on the first kick EVERY time today. That would be with points. Does anyone remember those?
Im picking away at it. 59 and I like to kick it. I need to replace the 30 year old front tire. Damn, I love this machine.
Its completely different from what everyone else is riding.
The Dunstall silencers have a sweet sound.
I hate winter.

Know the feeling. was zipping around Lake County today and couldn't get the grin off my face. My Ultra has been neglected for sure, but I know exactly what you're thinking.
Ride safe!

Hi Mike

Good to see it coming together for you, I would have replace both tyres first up so dangerours to ride on very old tyres, any way we have just got into out spring here in Aussie land, but we are lucky we can ride all year round, cold in the mornings during winter but my mates still shake their heads when I pull up wearing fingerless gloves, I just called them a bunch of girls as most of them ride Jap sports bikes, but I have been riding with them for over 40 years now.

Enjoy your Norton as I have enjoyed mine for 39 years now and still perferr to ride it more than my new Thruxton, but I am slowly getting the Thruxton to handle nearly as good as the Norton.

MikeM - similar thing here cept haven't got new one on either end,
I know what You're saying bout what it feels like to get on and ride after a
long absence. My old shovelhead is in need of third gear, but since
the Commando is alive again, that's what's been gettin the love...
We moved to the country a few years ago, (I know the older we
get, for the most part we hate winter) but Ive got a woodstove
in the shop and love to hibernate out there with ALL my toys !
So yeah, I love winter but might not as much after the few teaser
rides I've taken...
Enjoy!
Dave

In a former life I have a couple friends in Queensland. I have actually been to Oz. You guys drive on the wrong side of the road. A beautiful place you have. We stayed in Sydney and Cairnes.
I was able to Scuba on the Great Barrier Reef
I would love to come back.
A wonderful place.
