Hi All
Well finally got round to repairing Manx after last years off at Broadford Bike Bonanza.
New handle bars and grips (McIntosh), as well as a new foot rest.
Tank had two dents either side which luckily the panel beater was able to pull out although one side needed re painting a bit as a little bit of paint came off.
I have a new exhaust system but have left the old one on for various reasons!
Started first go but a large pool of oil formed rather quickly below the magneto drive cover, removed the cover and more oil poured out, only thing I could think of was the oil seeped through from the crankcase and filled the drive cover up a bit. I had drained off two liters and a bit from the sump yesterday.
Anyhow not leaking now.
I noticed at Broadford last year the exhaust turned blue from heat just after the timing cover, makes me think that I don't have the exhaust timing correct, maybe closing a bit late although, I would also have thought the pipe would have blued from the top down? It was running strong so I don't think it will be a problem in the short parade runs.
Still got to have the new tyres fitted along with a new tank breather hose.

I like to hear that you're getting it back into shape.
Please post pics!

The way I read it, the pipe gets a hot spot at resonant lengths.

Possibly so but never had the problem before, but will see what happens in a couple of days time.
May be too much no load!
Having a great time scooting around Bathurst district at the moment, pity I didn't have the Commando running, but the water bottle is as reliable as ever.
We head off to Broadford on Friday morning about a 10 hour run all going well

Hi
Well back from Broadford safe and sound.
Great weekend Manx went well for first real test since 1994 had problems with gear change which I have put down to the new clutch lever not having enough travel to lift the clutch free.
Saturday afternoon I ground back the lever to give more travel, but turned out to be not quite enough, but it was slightly better.
Up changes were fine but down changes left me with a sore foot.
Only messed up one gear change, went back to first instead of second, had spent the previous six days touring around Bathurst on my GT750 Water bottle, with gear lever and the brake lever reversed, to the Manx plus down for first and up for second and other gears.
Had six runs in total at 15mins each for the weekend, which was quite enough for my age and fitness.
Carburation was running too rich though out the range, making the slow corners a bit of a handful with some spluttering going on, forgot to take my float level gauge so couldn't check it, dropped the needle one notch and the spluttering stopped, this allowed the engine to pull strongly from 4,000 Rev/min, much easier to ride. I later change the main jet but not sure it made any difference.
I had fitted Dunlop TT100s front and rear for the weekend and they performed quite well but I didn't have the confidence to push them very hard as they are no comparison for the racing Avons I used to use before.
I will post some photos when I work out how to do it again.

Best Regards

and then post the links to view them on here.
