I have had my Maney Alloy cylinders resleeved , the original instruction sheet says not to machine the face flat, Does anyone know how much should be left remaining above the gasket face?

My memory says that Steve left the lip of the sleeve .005" above the deck of the casting, but I'm not positive of that number. I have a new set of his cylinders on the shelf, and I'll pull them out and measure them to be sure.

Well I thought it was .004”...so we’re either both close or both wrong Ken !

You are closer than I was, Nigel. I just measured a new 750 Maney cylinder, using a ground straight edge and feeler gauges, and got .003" and .004" at various locations around the cylinder surface.

Thanks Chaps, the new sleeves measure 0.008" so I'd better get it sorted .

Seeley 920 : I had them made at laystall engineering in Wolverhampton. Once fitted and honed to size there are to be returned for silicon carbide impregnation.

Bolt torque plates onto the cylinder before honing, both top and bottom, as the cylinder will bulge very slightly inwards especially around the counterbores for the long through bolts.

I had them treat the bores in my Maney block too, really helpful folks, dealing with us odd ball vintage bike nuts is nowt compared to their normal industrial work, but they still bent over backwards for me.

just before leaving for the machine shop I checked my e mail , I had a reply from Steve Maney, he suggests that "0.002" should be enough "; so I'm going for the mean and 0.003" .
