I busted the carbs open today, the slides are badly worn. the bodies require re-sleeved... who does it? How much will it cost?

or go with a Mikuni?

I had no idea the carbs were that bad...

I already bought new throttle cables, new K&N Air Cleaner, for the Amals I can sell the new parts if I go with the mikuni

sleeve Amal concentric Mk1

The Mikuni with rubber mounts doesn't wear out internal parts so fast. I had my 932 concentrics sleeved over 10 years ago. The slides have not worn in 20,000 miles. I do need to replace the needle jets and jet needles often as the vibration wears then down. My reason to stay with Amals is they fit better than Mikuni, I can use the stock air box with K&N filter ('72 750 with combat engine) and two carbs breath better than one at the top end. If I had an 850 Interstate, no question I would go with a single Mikuni.

Or new ones?

Another option is to buy new Amals for your bike. I got a new set of 932's for a little over $300 bucks and they have worked, well....like new! I am very happy that I went this route.

Amal carb body and throttle valve wear quick because both are made of the same material. Buy yourself a new set of Amals with new chrome plated throttle valves (like Mikuni) or even better chrome plated bronse valves, this combination gives you more milage and less synchronising!

I would suggest going with the mikuni.

This summer i switched over to the single mik. Installed, set mixture, riding strong no problems no balancing and no sticking slides.

i would suggest getting the choke mod from rockypointcycle.com if you do go with the mik.

the lever choke can be tough to reach with a glove on.

your going to get a lot of different answers but i second the mik conversion (with choke cable)-
did it on my bike and never thought i made the wrong choice - starts first kick, idles great, and gets around 55 mpg
