I am about to get the tank painted for my black 1974 Commando Roadster 850. SN# 308724 so it's a Mk2a. I looked at three roadsters in a local show over the weekend and each had slightly different paint scheme. I would like to get the pinstriping on the tank correct for this model. I have been looking at a lot of pictures but would like to verify. It appears there have been several variations over the different models. I believe the correct original pinstriping for a '74 850 is a continuous double gold strip that starts on the bottom, goes forward around the Norton script, up the front, and down the top of the tank, then goes to a single line at the back of the tank, runs across the back of the tank and joins the other side. One continuous strip.
Appreciate any help.

Maybe this will help. There is a small picture of a black one and it looks like the same style as the blue bike in the larger picture. Twin stripes that come together on each end. This is different than the earlier bikes that had a continous stripe around the raised side portion of the tank.

Sounds about right - and refer to the pics as mentioned above.
Watch too how the twin stripes are connected right at the ends, that distinguishes the factory scheme to how some painters do it.
Watch too that the double/single pinstripe on the sidecovers faces fowards - a lot of refinished sidecovers have them facing the other way...
