Question about the split clamp mod for swing arm spindle

I have seen many posts about Kegler's mod for the swing arm spindle. Perhaps I missed it but I have not seen any comments about sealing the holes from the elements. Is it an issue or can I drill merrily away and not worry about it?

I didn't seal mine, but we're in a very dry climate here; use your best judgement. If there's any concern, I would think that a spot of RTV in the hole just before driving the screws home would be good insurance.
