Question about Brexit

When we joined it was the European Common Market (ECM) and we knew where the goalposts were, now it’s the EU and the goalposts are over there . . . . .

The 2016 referendum was a varied result, depending on which part of the country you lived, for example Boston voted 72% leave due to ?????????? , whereas Cambridge voted 71% remain the two about 100 miles apart.
I know who my local MP is but, I still do not know who my Euro MP, Now was,

Best quote I heard was that the EU run without giving the public any democratically

They tend to run it like an Oligarchy.

In Australia and Sydney and Melbourne in particular, our housing Ponzi scheme is based upon immigration. Immigrants bring money and buy our houses, as long as you don't accept genuine refugees. Most of our immigrants arrive by plane - we hate boat people because they usually have no money, so have to be supported on welfare.
in England. all refugees need paying for. they bring nothing but an held out hand! then we have to house them. paid out of my tax contributions. I for 1 am sick of the lot of them and the left wing apologists!!!!

tonight at 23.00 hrs. we begin our fight for free thinking and free future of the European unelected bullies.

We shat on our oldest friends and allies to join our oldest enemies, and create a better Franco, German state. We all hate being told what to do by people who have never worked in the real world and cream off their bit. It could bite us in the ass big time, but sod em. 10 years of hell to come ??????

As was said by a commentator last night, it will probably be like the last scene in Truman - when the broadcast stopped people said “what else is on?”
Once we get past 11p.m. We can then say, what else is happening?

Great Britain and the United States—two nations separated by a common language.

That’s true Jim, but perhaps not in this case. For Truman it was all about watching TV - what else is on? For Brexit the focus was all about leaving the EU which crippled parliament from dealing with other issues, hence what else is happening and what do we need to deal with?

At 11pm GMT we will be able to get ourselves free and sing happy Brexit day, we will be playing the song "I want to break free", while the French will restore to their previous behaviour (if they have not already) of writing on the back of their toilet doors - "I laughed, I cried, I jumped with joy, for I was here, before Killroy! " :)

I know very little about Brexit, so I cannot make a cogent comment. I do suspect it stems from political divisions and a bit of anti immigration sentiment.

In a nutshell, that’s it!
The Conservative party were (are) divided over Europe and the threat of ever more centralisation by the EU. That, coupled with freedom of movement, especially recently from the newer members of the EU - Poland and 9 other states, 8 of which were formally from the communist block in Eastern Europe - allowed specific politicians and parties to focus on division and misinformation (they took our jobs!).
It is a full turn around, in the original in/out referendum in 1975, the Conservative party campaigned. To remain and Labour campaigned for leaving - the mirror image of the 2016 referendum.
There are of course many other issues involved but the Conservative party divisions were the driving force.

By 11 GMT I will be asleep full of continental beer or wine. Immigration never a issue. Just the millions wasted debating how thick toilet paper should be etc. ?????

Don't know where you get that from as if you only read the bad news about coloured people half the daily bread in London and elsewhere are baked by Indians (of all nationalities) the Greeks, French, and all the others have their own restaurants, we have temporary workers coming in to pick the farmers crops, plus all the foreign tourists that keep the hotels open and people in employment, I could go on but at the risk of offending someone who I might have missed out, I don't think I could.

I agree, unfortunately a lot of the rhetoric around the 2016 referendum was focussed on uncontrolled immigration- remember the Farage escalator image? It was bullshit, but taken as true by a lot of people, especially by those around the coastal areas.

I see that the EU don’t want to do any trade deals already- nothing changed there then. We will just have to impose heavy import fees on German cars, 20 minutes later Angela Merkel will be on the phone to the EU about not being able to sell cars in the UK.

see where you are coming from. no idea if you live in the south east. I do. can't bloody move for immigrants. not prejudice. a fact. sick of being gagged in my own country by left wing students and campaigners who don't seem to be paying tax to finance this ridiculous good will!!!!

Rubbish. Have you considered this will hurt british motorists first? I can't see this happen.

For the time being it's free trade as before. I don't believe there has been an official statement by EU on the possibility of reaching a trade agreement. Michel Barnier expressed doubts that an agreement will be negotiated in just 11 months, and most observers seem to support this view. Brace yourself for a hard brexit!

Don't kid yourself. There is lot to be said about toilet paper. Do you know how many tons are consumed in Europe (incl. UK) each year? 6,35 million metric tons! And what happens to the tissue once it is in the suer? And what is the effect on wastewater? How much recycled paper should be allowed, to make tissues userfriendly?

Etc. etc.

Cheers, Knut :)
