QUESTION ABOUT BENDING A SIDESTAND...?

...starting the bike on the side stand isn't recommended ...

While center-stand is always best, I do start (my `71) from the side-stand 90% of the time

...BUT...

I do it from a position standing on the right side of the bike so my (right side) weight counterbalances any stress to the stand. (In fact it actually reduces the existing load on the stand from the bike just sitting there parked.)

Mike,

My Mk3 had exactly the same disease, and has the same sidestand that you described. I've been scratching my head over how to bend the frame tab without breaking the weld, and then read your post. Today I took the stand over to a friend with a 3-ton press and dropped the end of the stand 1.25"; this resulted in a nearly straight stand. The bike sits perfectly now, just a slight incline for stability. Good advice.

Rick
