1975 Mk3 Commando Electric Start Hi everyone I removed my QD rear wheel fairly easily and quickly as it says on the box but putting it back is a whole new story has anyone suggestions or reccomendations on how do this on your own, it seems I have to hold the spacers insert the spindle lift and move the wheel to engage it on the hub all at the same time and I only have 2 weak and decrepid old hands which is not enough Quickly Detachable is correct but putting it back has me baffled I have tried lifting the wheel with a ratchet strap no go cannot turn the wheel I have tried levering it up wth shovel no go cannot keep spacers in situ and still did not get it to engage the hub, help badly needed before our summer is gone Many thanks Chris

it seems I have to hold the spacers...

Which "spacers" do you mean?

...insert the spindle lift and move the wheel to engage it on the hub all at the same time

I engage the hub on the sprocket vanes and then wedge something like a screwdriver blade under the tyre (that's assuming the bike is standing on the ground?) to hold it in position while I fit the caliper carrier plate and R/H chain adjuster, then slide the spindle through the assembly.

There's a spacer sleeve on the R/H side of the hub but that shouldn't need holding in position?

I actually meant wheel adjuster there is just to much to do while trying to locate the wheel on the hub I have just had to walk away from it before I hit it with a large hammer

Once the wheel has been hung on the sprocket vanes and wedged then it should stay in position.
The wheel adjuster should be tight enough to hold itself in place on the plate after the caliper plate has been aligned and once the spindle is inserted then it can't go anywhere, so all you should then have to concentrate on is getting the spindle through the caliper plate and into the wheel assembly.

Sounds simple but I have not even managed to locate the wheel on the hub if I can get that done rest should not be a problem any suggestions there? many thanks for your kind advice Chris

Hang the wheel on the head of the dummy axle and rotate it until the slots in the cush drive engage with the sprocket vanes then hold the wheel assembly in that position with whatever suitable available item fits under the tyre, in this case, a screwdriver.
Unless you knock the bike (or the wheel) then the wheel should stay in place.

Carefully drop the caliper carrier into position and insert the chain adjuster. Everything should remain in position without being held...

...as you insert the spindle. (I replaced the chain adjuster with its rough side out!)

Thanks for that it is now obvious to me the very first thing I did was wrong I put my blocks under the centre stand and the right hand side is very slightly lower consequently the wheel will not rest in position at all tomorrow I wil raise the right hand side and try again
