It would take much more than that. You must support the inner primary with that stud (keep it away from the cradle). Finding/making a long precision spacer would likely be more trouble than doing it right. You could use all thread, two nuts locked together against the inside of the inner primary, and then one on each side of the cradle for the primary purpose but I'm not sure if up and down support would also be needed. IMHO, the 30 minutes to do it right is worth it - that's what I did when I made that mistake.
