Primary chaincase centre stud

It would take much more than that. You must support the inner primary with that stud (keep it away from the cradle). Finding/making a long precision spacer would likely be more trouble than doing it right. You could use all thread, two nuts locked together against the inside of the inner primary, and then one on each side of the cradle for the primary purpose but I'm not sure if up and down support would also be needed. IMHO, the 30 minutes to do it right is worth it - that's what I did when I made that mistake.
Not as bad as finishing assembly of a BSA A65 engine/transmission unit only to find the breather baffle that goes on the inner end of the camshaft "left over"!

Im not sure about you guys but the older I get the more shite I screw up.
There is usually a brief period of grief that sets in followed by acceptance and then a resolve to just fix the damn thing. This process hasn’t always come to fruition. 10 or 15 years ago I started working on a 46 Norton Model 18. I got most of it primed and was getting the tank ready when I dropped it on the floor and dented it pretty bad. That was that. I said To He’ll With It and hung it on the wall and haven’t touched it since. Maybe I’ll work on that next !

With me it's just the opposite. When I did that faux pas on the A65T I was in my early 20s. A few years later my Dad told me that my biggest problem was that I got in too much of a hurry. I heeded his advice and started being more meticulous and took my time paying attention to every detail. Now perhaps I have taken that to the other extreme and find myself doing more tinkering, not being so fixated on the conclusion. I have compensated by getting an earlier start on projects..
My advice is to back up, dismantle the primary and do the job properly. It really shouldn't take that long. In fact, you will in all likelihood take longer trying to cobble up some sort of jury rigged solution.
