Primary Chain Replacement

I did that, and see a number of claims that all current triplex chains are of poor quality. But, there's no supporting evidence. No one has cited design deficiencies, low-quality material specification, or actual experience of early failure with any of the available triplex chains (KCM, Regina, Renold, CZ). So, without doubting that the IWIS duplex is a good solution, I'm skeptical about the idea that it's the only sensible alternative.

About 15 yrs ago , the primary tried to eat itself , by time I rode home , damage was done , new inner primary case , new front sprocket , new rotor & stator and a new chain , don’t think I was aware of Andy at the time ..... ordered up what I needed from local to me ,Brit Cycle supply and put it back together carefully .... no idea triplex brand but have had no issues since , keeping in mind the Commando is not my daily ride .....
 
The only chain failure I've had was also catastrophic - even bent the gearbox main shaft. But the failure was induced by an exploded alternator rotor (insufficient clearance perhaps, I dunno).

Dave's chain seems to have been treated well, in oil and correct tension. Not rusted or stretched. I'd be wanting to know what happened.
 
I blamed the failure on re-using the dog bone washers too,too many times , found the remains of one jammed in alternator which set the chain reaction off .... could be wrong , since then always new washers no matter the condition , and as I said above zero issues ... always felt lucky with resulting damage , could have been a lot worse .....
 
I have seen cracked tripex rollers before. Pieces laying at the bottom of the inner cover.
Prior to availability of the merc chain, I replaced with another triplex.

Now, I'd replace with the merc chain from the chain man, due to the uncertain quality of today's triplex.
At the same time, I'd buy a IWIS final drive chain from him also.

Ensure there is ample oil, ATF Type F, especially if your primary leaks.
