primary adjustment

It seems to me on 74 and earlier commandos, the primary adjustment makes no sense. When you pull the tranny to snug the chain you raise the chaincase which puts stress on the three bolts holding it to the crankcase. I thought of loosening the three iso mounts, tighten the chain, then retorque iso mounts. Any thoughts on this?

Got to explain this one better...might be dumb, but isn't the tranny drive shaft in a kind of dished washer thing with felt in the middle to seal out dirt from the inside of the primary...and doesn't the dished washer move inside the opening in the inside primary cover when you move the tranny and tighten the chain? How is the chain case going to get raised? Unless the washer isn't moving as it should. And iso mounts? They are on the cradle and motor and have not a bit to do with that adjustment...or? Unless I misunderstand your question, or have a brain lag of course...

I think hewho has it right. When you adjust the chain, the seal carrier slides with the gearbox, preventing any stress on the chaincase or its mounting bolts.

If adjusting your chain is putting strain on your chaincase then the dished washer has siezed on the chain case or a DPO has welded it to the chaincase. Either one requires correcting.
