Hiya this is really hard to explain so here go's . I have a 1972 750 commando when i start it from cold theres a popping sound i would't say it a mechanical knock and it would appear to be coming from around carb area and only happens when you quickly blip the throttle friends are saying it could be abit of induction or it could be the inlet rockers have got abit tight any views that could help thanks.

would this only happen when its cold and sound is coming from the carb area and am i right in saying the inlet rockers are out of adjustment ???

Have you checked the rocker clearances - this is/should be routine maintenance.

If you apply some choke when cold starting (do you have the choke system fitted ?) the 'popping sound' is likely to go away.
Or, rather, the lean backfires won't then happen...

Thanks for your reply i'm going to give it a go with the choke on and then take it from there.
