Can anybody advise me how to install the Pitbull spool on the left-hand side of my '74 850 Commando? The problem is that the bottom shock bolt appears to be impossible to remove. I have not yet removed the chain guard, and figure that this might be the answer, but am curious how others have dealt with this. Any help appreciated!!

To remove the left side lower shock mount you need a thin open-end wrench that will slide into the loop of the chainguard. A bodge that sometimes works is to lock a thin bladed screwdriver between the flat of the bolt head and the edge of the loop.

I too have the Pit Bull rear stand for my Commando and had to install the lifting spools.

Do not despair, it can be done!

Got it out! Thanks! But now the bolt is too long to fit on the brake drum. Will have to cut the bolt. Currently put together without any washers, just: (1) Allen bolt; (2) Spool; (3) Nut. Will probably use some blue Locktite after I cut down the bolt. While I am in there, it may also be time to do the 520 chain conversion.

Oh that kind of stand. i made my own that goes under frame and depending on where its placed lifts either front or rear tire a few inches off ground. Works on all Commandos expect maybe those with center line exhausts.
