That right, what's up with the attitude of the posters lately? Is it a lingering effect, like a smoke cloud caused by a short lived but volatile former member? When I joined this thing I was tickled to find like minded individuals with a common love for Commandos. Now it seems as though the simplest question or topic from a new guy or a veteran morphs into an testosterone laced argument. keep in mind folks, there are a lot of younger guys and first time Norton owners coming along. They are here because of a certain legendary reputation that Commandos have. I've seen a few posts lately that start with "New to me Norton" or "Always wanted one" or "Got this from my dad" etc, etc. I imagine they find this forum and log in expecting good info, and it's here for sure, but the new owner also more and more, it seems, has to wade through a lot of attitude and fighting within the forumship ("forumship", now that's a good word). We should keep this in mind I think because the new guy, expecting better may just think to himself "I'm lost, F-this" and move on.

yea - who? or are you making assumptions? I see a lot of support and good feedback for new people here.
I do remember one recent long-time member (who never contributed a single helpful post yet claims to have owned Norts for many years), asked a niggling question and got some flack. from me.
'attitude' goes both ways.

Yup I'm with you there Biscuit.
I don't post often, but the kind of almost belligerent argumentative responses I've seen lately on some posts, make me glad I don't. (no I wasn't thinking of you tomspro)

Forums can be funny things (like e-mail).
A person might respond to a question a certain way and it can appear a little condescending or mean spirited
but if the same conversation was "in person" it wouldn't be perceived at such.

Add the fact that there are more new members now (like me) and you get more off-color posts.
Also factor in the weird sarcastic humor of certain users.
(at least I've been a member longer than tomspro...)

Here we have an example of an oxymoronic thread. All we need is a prospective member to read this dribble and quickly move on the another forum. For goodness sake, biscuit, at least have the where abouts to post in the appropriate section.

The implication that this forum is more than the motorcycle itself shows a lack of faith and an example of intence insecurity.

I have been a part of Norton Commando long before I knew this forum exsisted and if this forum ends I will still be intensely involve. I will continue to do as I always did, buying from the same sources that i always have and tooling, experimenting, or whatever till I am no longer able.

L.A.B., dump this POS before it goes too far.

How's that for being a "pissed off forumer".

Jeez Pete - let people vent just a bit.
I might not agree with Biscuit, but a discussion is not likely to ruin the forum for you or anyone else if people express an opinion instead of just dry technical stuffs 24/7.

This isn't the place for it. The very nature of the thread is what the author is against. Again, oxymoronic.
To bitch for sake of bitching about bitching. PLEASE!

Responde by PM so this can be ignored appropriately.

I have never contributed any thing on this forum but I have found myself having to ask what some people would consider very dumb questions. I have only ever received positive helpful advice and encouragement, I take my hat off to all the people on here who spend their valuable time responding to inexperienced people like myself.
Thank you all.

I read this forum daily but I generally don't post much anymore because I get tired of being shouted-down by the "experts" here, it doesn't bother me too much since I have a long history with Commando's. I kinda find the attitude and "expert opinions" funny!

There certainly seems to be a difference of opinion.

So, anybody else want to make any further constructive comments before this thread is locked/moved?

Like Mark said, no forum is going to be completely free of personal opinions and sometimes people PERCEIVE things to be hostile that were not intended that way.

But hey, we are all adults and what the hell... if we can manage to maintain a 40+ year-old machine with all the frustration and expense involved in that, a few demeaning remarks on a forum are not much in the big picture of things.
Holy shit! People are being BEHEADED for just being in places that disagree with their right to take pictures...
How is that for getting off 'classic commando forum' topic?

May be have a Rod and Tappet section (kind of like the Britbike Forum) for those who want to vent off while washing down the trail dust with a cold brew. The Norton Pub! If it doesn't belong in the forum section then it gets moved to here. Saves you from locking threads.
Just a thought for “the nothing to do with Norton’s in general”. A tongue in cheek smiley for those who wish to use a small amount of sarcasm showing no offence.
