Pilot jet drill bit

I now have the recommended #78 drill bit for the pilot jets. These things are smaller than small!
I dont know if I have the stones to stick these inside the carb. Anyone use these regularly? Anyone ever break one off?
I may go for the guitar string. At least that wont break.

Never broken one off. I took the red snorkel tube from a can of brakleen, warmed the end up a bit with a match and stuck the drill shank in for a holder.

I glued mine into an end of a Q-tip stem.

I use the brass wire which comes from the mesh covering on some wine bottles - won't break, no harder than the jet and comes complete with a free bottle of wine attached :mrgreen:

I glued mine into the end of a hypodermic needle tip (serious MRSA infection some years ago, which required 3 months of shots). The end that screws into the syringe is perfect for gently twisting the bit


Its also a nice tool for injecting grease or oil into a hard-to-reach area.

I would not recommend getting MRSA just for a supply of hypos!

I use a long sewing needle, gently. I imagine a small hypodermic needle would work well by itself, perhaps 27 ga.

I think I used glue but same difference.

bad ethanol fuel here clogs up the pilot jets especially on my small bikes here , I use the brass wire from wire brushes , thats the finest wire I have found
always keep a strand in my toolkit

Nice thing about the bits is that the crud packs into the spiral so you can pull it back out. Heres's my source for them. Like others mentioned, superglue them into a brakeclean red tube.

I got a pack of them (drills) in a little vial through Amazon. Glued a bunch to toothpicks and plastic tubes. Cleaned my jets and it made a huge difference. I had one clogged. When I fired her up it scared me because the idle on that bank went way up. I proceeded to lose/forget where I put them and I only have the vial of spares taped to my wall in here. I might have one taped to inside my side cover. I liked the idea of using a syringe head. As a side note, you can go into any pharmacy in the USA and buy insulin syringes and insulin without a prescription of any kind. If you ask nicely, they also give away medicine droppers for use on your kids. I always wanted to go to Costco when they had different hours for different clients and give them a ration of hurt if need be. Sam's still does. By law you cannot be prohibited from entering a any pharmacy to get Diabetic supplies. Put that in your trick bag.

You could use a pin chuck.

I glue the bits into basketball air filler needles. Makes it easy to twiddle. Be sure to buy many.

I cut the pointed ends of a toothpick, took a needle pin to make the hole and inserted the #78 drill bit, then put a drop or two of glue on it.
