Pea shooters

Hi Guys,
Cannot decide on which pea shooters to get for my Mark lll:

* steel with seam;
* steel without seam or
* stainless.

Aside from price what's the advice?

Do they improve power over the black cap stock muffler?

Having had both, IMHO the seamless look a LOT better than the seamed.

I have Wassells and like them, but if I were buying again, I'd get stainless Epcos.

Note stainless will turn golden with heat; for mufflers, that tends to be just the very front part where they join the headpipes (judging from the stainless Epcos I have on an airhead BMW).

The bean cap muffed bikes had leaner main jets (230s as I recall). So when you replace them you will need to richen the mains. 260s were the standard jets for the earlier peashooter 850s.

Then the difference must be exhaust note, as opposed to power.

With that, do I risk throwing myself into the "Harley-esque" noise maker crowd?

No way :evil: :evil:. A stock peashooter with the fluted internal baffle as per original sounds waaaaaay better than any Hardly that I have ever heard.
The Norton will be loud with pea shooters, that's for sure, but it has a quality mellow note underlying the crisp rasp. Pure quality :D :D :D :D .

A Hardly, well that is usually just a loud FLAT noise.

In my opinion, no comparison, and what's more, in no way am I biased :oops: :oops:

Well, not really. If an engine is most efficient with 230 jets and you change something (in this case, the exhaust) to make it most efficient with 260 jets, you have to be moving more air to accomodate the additional fuel and you are therefore making more power.

I'm running mine with a pair of Keihin FCR 35mm flatslide carbs.

I've posted my jetting settings before (they took a while to iron out - the carbs came "pre-jetted" but way rich. Having gone through this with another set of FCRs (41mms for Ducati 900SS), that seems to be how it goes).

I do believe I've gained a bit of power over the stock pipes and Amals.

Since this is being discussed. I have toga's on my bike and will need to replace because of todays incident, but it appears they are not offered anywhere. what is a comparable replacement to the toga brand peashooter.

BB220,

Did you try Baxter cycle 712-781-2351, to see if they had any Toga's ? They used to sell them.

Has anyone heard the commando specialties peashooters? They look nice and the price is waaaay right, but I don't want that tinny after market sound.

Ok, I broke down and bought a pair of the super cheap seamless peashooters from CS. I emailed Duane and asked why so cheap? Here is his reply: "Not silly at all Tim, we have these made for us, so they come directly from the factory to you. No dealer mark up etc, they really are a bargain with a money back guarantee. (no one has sent any back yet).
Duane"

I figure I have thrown a lot more money away on dumber things, so figured I'd give these a try. I will receive them after I am laid up from surgery so won't fit and be able to listen to them until march or April, but will report any info back.

Looking forward to a full write up and tons of pictures. :mrgreen:

I have yet to be disappointed with anything I've bought from CS. I think the exhaust system they sell for $290 looks outstanding. My mufflers have the ugly seam, and the ones without the seam look outstanding.

FWIW, I bought a set of used Toga's on eBay (I overpaid) just so I could remedy the one side of my bike which had been horribly soldered to patch up a hole. I planned on using them temporarily until I could afford to go all-out and buy the CS seamless set. That is, if I don't like the custom tuck-in pipes my dad made for me to use.. :)

Bahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Yeah, he's trying. :p

Hell with that--I'm banking on being in his will for his Nortumph when it's finished. then I just have to figure out a way to get him to shuffle off this mortal coil and it's all mine!!!!
