I bought a small lot of NOS Norton parts and have a couple of questions.

Are there different length swing arm bushings between Commando years? Which is which?

Parts Questions

I found this part and have no idea what it is. Maybe a vent on the oil tank?

Any help appreciated.

More like a gearbox vent.

Yes that looks right. Sorry I should have put a measurement up...it's only 2" in diameter.

Must be a racing part. There were a few racing parts in the lot. Amal Velocity stacks and extenders (straight tubes that screw onto the carbs but longer than the stock ones).

Mostly fasteners, bolts, rubber parts, cables, bearings and seals. Most had part numbers and descriptions so pretty easy to figure out.

Thanks.

Looking at different years on the Old Britts web site, the same bush is listed up through 1974 (pre-Mk2a), 06-0447 at 1.5 inches long. For 1975 it shows bush 06-5320 for the Mk2a and the Mk3 at 1.25 inches.

Well, the Old Britts website isn't quite correct. The short swingarm bushing was first used on the 1974 Norton Mark II and IIA's I believe around engine number 314xxx. They are the 'lube for life' bushings and those swingarms are easily identified by having a welsh plug on the end of the swingarm pivot with no grease fitting. This is one of the number of continual changes that happened to the Mark II and IIA's that is not listed in the parts book supplement. I am not aware of any revision sheets for the Mark II/IIA parts book supplement.

The plate with the fitting would not find that much flat area to put on AMC shell but sure looks like made to order for the flat blanking plate timing chest crank case vent.
