Good day all...started sorting through a pile of stuff that should eventually become 2 850's..1 is going to be a daily rider, the other hopefully a by the numbers correct resto. As I'm very new to Norton, need some help with identifying a couple of parts and correct years (mix of '73 and '74)...

Z plates: any differences between the 2 years?
Kickstarter: any differences between the 2 years?

Thanks!

Welcome.

No.

Not between years-but if one happened to be an 'A' model (850 Mk1A or 2A) and the other was not, (850 Mk1 or 2) then the kickstart levers would be different. Do the two kickstart levers look any different-or are they basically identical?

They are different, in that the one in the pile of parts looks more angular in nature (sorry, no pics), while the one on the bitsa '73 is the nicely curved version...guess thats the problem with buying parts and failed projects!

The "angular" one could be the 'A' or 'MkIII' lever often fitted as replacements because they are slightly longer and give more exhaust clearance than the standard kickstart-however, neither type would look out of place on any '73 or '74 model.
