Nor would I, sooner or later something else will need attention so do it then. I painted mine in situ seven years ago now and it still looks good, haven't had the barrels off in all that time.
 
Damn it!! Have to lift the barrels up to get those nuts off/on. Another fantasy ruined.

My memory is shit. I know I looked at replacing those nuts a while ago and must have discovered I couldn't do it easily, so gave up on the idea. Sorry about the I'd do it without hesitation BS.

Time to get the tooth brushes and Q-tips out to clean the head up with a water based grease cutter. Tedious work, but always seems worth it when finished.

Cylinder paint looks good as it ever does.
 
I read good things about Spraymax paint.
Any experience?

Painting Barrel In Situ
 
When I did my barrels in situ, advice here was to use saran wrap and a length of string to wrap the head/barrel interface, then fold saran wrap up over head to make a near perfect protection of head and a clean line to barrel. No tape in that area needed.
I used high temp 1200 F) bbq paint, satin black, brush on, as spraying in my public parking garage work area not an option.
Worked out very well. Directions stated to just remove loose rust, no need to fully de-rust. And only one coat needed. Used a foam wedge "brush' for some of fin gaps until the foam broke away. Then went with pipe cleaners dipped in paint. Worked quite well.
Has held up nicely in two years so far.
