paint schemes????

Hi just for my curiosity can anybody tell me the the stock colors for a 73 750 and a 74 850?? Vin

Roadster, Interstate ? Hi-Rider ?

Roadster

Black & Gold.

Black & Gold.

Other colors were available, but what for?

My then new 73 850 was red, not sure if it was called candy apple back then.

I have a brochure that is reputed to be for 1974, and it lists:

Pacific Blue, "Traditional Black and Gold", Tangerine, Candy Apple (red), and all white with Blue Stripe.

I've also heard the red referred to as 'Fireflake', but I don't know if the factory used that description.

My '74 was originally red w/flakes that were larger than what's in "Metallic" paint, and smaller than I would have called "Metal Flake", so Fireflake would have fit.

I promptly painted it black w/silver leaf logo & stripes. They just look so good in black.....

The 1973 Parts book lists Roadster tanks as follows :-

750, Fireflake Royal Blue, no trim
750, Canary Yellow, no trim
750, Black, single line trim
850, Fireflake Golden Bronze, double line trim
850, Fireflake Royal Blue, double line trim
850, Black, double line trim
850, Candy Apple Red, double line trim

There is no mention of the short-stroke 750s (Candy Red with no lining)

I don't have a 1974 parts book but according to Roy Bacon, the 850 Roadster colours were unchanged for 1974 with the exception of the appearance of the white tank with blue stripe.

However, we've had discussions on here about the difference between Royal Blue and Pacific Blue (the 1974 850 colour) and they aren't the same.
