Need to determine an approximate month/year when my '68 P11A SN 124888 could have first been registered new. Did model-years only become available in the same year or, like cars, were they available 6 to 9 months before the previous year end? How fast did these bikes move when they hit the showroom floor?

The NOC has a records service (for a fee) that will tell you the date the machine left the factory. When it arrived at a dealer's showroom would be a guess.

Nortons were often made one calendar year and titled the next, as mine was.

P11A - 1st 124372, last 126123. 3 batches made, totaling about 1300

Your number, 124888, was likely in that first batch, which would have been around September, 1967. The second batch was likely in the winter of 1967-1968, and the last P11A was the last bike built before production Commandos started. (20M3/126125, there was no 126124)
P11As should all be considered 1968 models, whether they were titled as 1967, 1968 or 1969. All P11As fall between 124372 and 126123. Earlier bikes were P11s (solo seat, cross loop behind seat brazed to the frame, most with the larger 3-1/2 gal tank and high pipes) and should be considered 1967 model year. Later bikes were Ranger 750s (128646 to 129145, unskimmed hubs, front brake switch, long dual seat - same pan as the N15, but with different mounting method - and a half dozen other minor details).

My P11 Ranger was dispatched on 15 October, 1968, but was titled as a 1968 machine. All Rangers should be considered 1969 bikes, as they were built between 15 September and 17 October, 1968, and intended as 1969 models. It's likely this bike sold as soon as it hit the showroom. Rangers were built just after the 1968 Commando, and 1969 Commando production picked back up in December, after the run of 750 Mercurys (18SS/129146-129895)

My G15CS was built in July, 1967, and is definitely a 1967 machine, G15CS/1235xx. It is also titled as a 1968 bike, as it probably did not sell until the 1968 model year, and there is no difference between a late '67 and '68 G15CS (distributor ignition and Amal concentrics were introduced mid-year, 1967, around 121000, coincidentally, right when P11 production started)
