I have noticed that the current offering from all dealers is the same 2015 exhaust system.
I am told this is manufactured by Armour.
Nice new pipes, nice chrome, fit is not well, infact incorrect, but useable......but the tach drive cant be fitted due to the new length and bend of the head section.
here is my photo to try and describe the issue. OEM pipe is the dark one below. may not be to scale but close enough.
I tried to line up the flanges so it becomes obvious what the length issue is coming out of the head.
Critiquing the new pipe
the angle appears too severe at #1
the length of the initial "U" bend is too long
bend #3 is too far to the rear
bend #4 is too far to the rear
Am I the only one to notice this?

No.
Low pipes aren't perfect, either, but can be made to fit with careful tweaking.

I have the same issue with high pipes on my '67 P11. No way to install the cable onto the tach drive. I have been debating about rotating the tach drive a little clockwise so that the cable will screw on but havent done it yet. Plan would be to remove the cover, plug the existing screw holes, probably with two screws ground off and locktighted in place, drill and tap two new holes in new position. Anyone ever tried it?

John, Is this with new hi pipes? or with the hi pipe set you pictured on your album?

This is with new high pipes. I got them from Wes Scott in S. Florida but I'm not sure who made them.

On my '68 P11a, I run high pipes. The tach drive cable is not at the correct angle but fits. Due to it touching, the cable will probably wear through the pipes after time. What is needed to convert to the early tach drive cable angle?

It's a relatively easy job to re-angle the tach drive. Find the sweet spot, drill and tap threads for the screws and Bob's your uncle. You can easily fill the old holes with JB weld or some such and then touch up with silver hobby paint. I remember doing this long ago.

after viewing 121013 Patricks P11 and having my own 2000-3000 miles on a P11, I am wanting to add exhaust heat shields.
I see some Emgo units on Ebay listed as - Emgo 7" Chrome Motorcycle Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield • Vintage Honda 80-03200

Hi P400,

I need one of those too. The one on the left of the Patrick racer has gone missing...It was never there when I first got involved with the bike in 2001.

If I can find the right one new I'll have to give it some patina to match the rest of the bike. Thanks for posting.

Hello,

This post is very interesting. i have a question, i fit P11 exhaust tube on my racer :

P11 Exhaust pipes, mufflers, clamps, spacers

It's pratiquely ok for the left tube but the right haven't the same curvature type (oposite), is it normal?

I buy my exhaust tube in RGM shop but i think the OEM on the picture on the first post would be more. Where can i found it?

Thanks

Gilles

The P11 engine sits upright in the frame, where the Commando engine is tilted forward - this will kick the rear of a P11 high-pipe exhaust up on a Commando.

Norton did make high pipes for a model in 1970-71 called the Commando SS. The U-bend at the front is not as tight so the silencer is more or less level

Somebody - RGM, Norvil, Andover Norton - should be able to source these

This model is pretty rare as it did not sell well when new, and was dropped by serial 20M3S/150723 (first one in the 145000 range, and produced with the Roadster, Hi-Rider and Fastback. The S model ran from 131257 to 135088)

Hello,
I fit SS hexaust pipes on my racer but there are 2 problems. The first, it is very large!!! When you are on the seat your legs touch the tubes and.... It's very hot.....!!!! The second, the SS tube have a 1"3/8 bore the P11 have 1"5/8.

P11 Exhaust pipes, mufflers, clamps, spacers

P11 tubes are good on the left on my racer but not on the right.is it normal or a bad production?
And where can i order good P11 product whith the same design right and left or OEM.

The bad left pipe is from a mistake made many years ago. A company here in the US (DomiRacer) sent a pair of original P11 high pipes and a pair of P11 low pipes back to England to make copies - the company in England made the left pipes wrong, and this error has continued down through the years. (This is the story I got from DomiRacer back in 2010).

Probably the best source for correct fitting pipes for a P11 would be Walridge Motors in Ontario, Canada. Mike Partridge is a big fan of the P11 and N15/G15 machines, and his parts usually fit pretty well.

You must remember that many of these spares are copies of copies of low production original pieces that may not have fit well to begin with.

Hi.
Please, do you know the threads of the screws of the tacho drive?.
Thank you.
Pieto

Hi Piero,
I believe these screws are 2BA thread and approx. 1/2 inch long under the screw head.

Ed

So did the high pipes from RGM clear the tach drive ok? Looks like they sell the ones made by TJ Wassell.
