What lubricant do you use on brake cams?

I have tried everything and still don't get a full return to zero position (non drag) on the rear brake. I have tried permatex green disk brake lube, white moly grease, antiseize and plain oil and nothing is slippery enough.

Perhaps it's time for new brake cams and buttons or new springs although they seem pretty strong?

The original brake cams are a little pitted but smooth. I have even tried flipping them 180 degrees to the newer ramp side, without success.

I have always felt the Norton P11 rear brake spring system was under designed.
In practice this rear brake doesn't feel as sure planted as I would desire.
So I have plans to improve the rear brake return spring.

Google "lock wire washer"

Yes that would work. When manually lifted, the problem goes away. I have thought about trying to implement a Commando-type rear safety spring but I doubt it would work. A spring off the rear lever going to the torque strap, or pedal going to strap would work. Just need to drill a small hole in the strap.

Usually when the arm doesn't return well it means the brake shoes are too thin or need shimming. The cam is turning too far and tends to get stuck near the horizontal position.

Shoes are not too thin and drag is worse when a shim is in there.
Might try a new, smoother cam. I have not checked the availability and cost yet.

The following applies to my Tickle TLS but I think has applicability here...

It is worth polishing both the cam and the bearing plates (the steel ones that fit on the end of the shoe casting - don't seem to have part numbers) with finer grades of emery and buff to give them a mirror finish.
When done, any good molybdenum grease will work well.

May be worth a try on the P11?
Cheers

Thanks. I used a brass wire wheel on a Dremel but apparently still not smooth enough. Will try polishing to a mirror finish with fine abrasive paper and buffing pad at the next opportunity.
