Ok guys, need some help. Bought my 961 with 259 miles and the output shaft was already leaking oil. Changed the tranny oil to the fill hole. Still leaks. Orders the o- ring and shaft seal. Now to get the shaft nut off. Lock washer tabs down, bike in first gear, pushing down on rear brake with great force. Rear tire turns backwards when I put a wrench on the shaft nut. Any ideas on how to get the nut off ? Don't want to screw up what I'm trying to fix.

You need a trans vent.

I Hope you know that nut has REVERSE Threads ! You've got to turn the nut CW to loosen ! Look in Richard-7 's manuals . Factory manual does NOT do a good job of pointing that out.

Thanks. I do have a vent installed but I guess it was too late. I have most of Richard’s manuals. Didn’t know there was info on that. Thanks again all.

And an added shout out for AF1 Racing in Austin TX and Norton. Called AF1 and ordered the parts. They were out of stock and had to order from Donington. Had the parts at my door in nine days.

OK still a no go. Heated the nut up pretty hot. Put a two foot breaker bar on the nut and put enough force on the nut to left the rear wheel off the stand but the nut held. Richard's manual suggest putting a pneumatic ratchet wrench on the nut. My fear is screwing up something in the tranny. Any thoughts.

I used an air wrench with 6 point socket. Remember reverse threads . Put it in gear and hold down the rear brake lever firmly. Use a little heat. I used blue loctite (medium strength) not high strength when reassembling. It can be done trust me.

Pneumatic ratchet got it off. A side note. I put a large Phillips screw driver in the first open tooth on the sprocket. The sprocket didn't move at all during the nut removal. The assemblers used a bronze colored product on the output shaft splines that flaked off and was all up in the O ring and the shaft seal. Cleaned all that crap out. Should be fine now. Thanks Tony and Richards manual.

Cleaned out all what looked like copper based anti seize from around the spacer O ring. (TonyA's input) Got the new "O" ring and seal installed. New nut and lock washer. Rode it to a local brewery taproom and back, 25 miles. No leak. Thanks TonyA and Richard7.

Good Job . I messed my large seal up the first time (dented it) during installation. So I ordered 2 more just in case !

Me too, pushed in the second with my thumbs most of the way. Another reason why it too a month just didn't want to fess up.

my dominator is doing the exact same, I had a new o ring fitted but it is still leaking, is yours sorted now? mine is going back to the factory to get looked at, what was the final outcome from yours, is it fixed and what was the cause?

The large seal and o-ring need to be replaced . Also , if there is any doubt replace the steel spacer that the keeps the o-ring and the seal lips ride on. This spacer is just behind the countershaft sprocket and would need to be removed to install the o-ring. I have done about 350 miles since the replacement and no leaks .

Cool cheers for the heads up, it is going back to the factory in the next few weeks as it is under warranty. Is this a common failure then?

I want to say NO , it is not common. However , I really don't know .

The output shaft was coated with what appeared to be a anti-seize product that got all up in the o-ring and seal. Appeared to be the cause of the leak. Once I cleaned all the crap out and a new o-ring and seal and no more leak.
