Just curious. Take a look at this Ebay auction. It says it is original paint but take a close look at the photo of the filler neck. It shows paint inside the neck (and the tank). My '74 tank was clearly devoid of paint inside the neck. I actually looks to me like there are some sanding marks around the filler as well. I also thought that the red had the same metal flake as the blue and it isn't obvious in these photos.

Thanks,

My 74 was just like that - candy red laquer over silver metalic ground coat. What you think are sanding marks is probably just wear from wiping spilled gas off the tank. Laquer scratches easily.

My 73 is original paint and has a bit of spray inside as well. I purchased from the original owner so know it's original. Unless someone stole it from his barn in the 20 years it sat and painted it without his knowing

Very Careless , should be sitting on a old towel . Id have a word to him about the shipping packageing , ive youve liberated it .

There was a fireflake red on the early 750s. See below comparison fireflake royal blue on the Type S and fireflake red on the Type R.

Original Paint?

The 850 Parts List of the time lists Candy Red tanks and sidecovers for 850 Commandos.
Tank is P/N 062701/152
Where are these Dealer Sheets of colour options when you need them ?
As mentioned in the brochure.

I can recall someone buying an 850 Mk2 Roadster new in Candy Red.

P.S. Only thing is the tank on ebay doesn't look to have much of a metallic look to it.
Could just be the photography though.

HTH.

I bought mine new. Then one day dropped a wrench on the tank and chipped it. That led to a new hobby that I've been involved with ever since ... bike painting.

You gotta be up close in the right light to notice metalic ground coat through candy paints.

Very Nice! My '70 Roadster was originally 'Fireflake Red'. I love those colors. May paint the new Interstate tank the same. Bet that'll stand out on the larger tank.

Dave,

The one in the back with the metallic red paint is the Type R. The signal red one in the front "is" a Commando SS. The blue one in the middle is the one I'm sure you're most familiar. :)

Yeah, I just got a bit fast on the keyboard. Have to admit it's hard to see the R in the background as being what it is, an R. Sorry.

R= Rare. I think I've only seen one in the flesh. Interesting prelude to the Roadster.
