one piece rear axle (2012)

thats why I have been manufacturing my own Norton replacement front and rear brake shoe springs for the past 2 years for my replacement front and rear brakes. you know the saying , if you want something done right..........

Actually it was the bonded brake linings peeling of the after market brake shoes that gave me my biggest fright. It was about ten years ago so I dont remember the manufacturer. A local bike shop reported many other cases as well.

All my brake shoes have rivits added now.

My lists of woes seems a little long I know. It all comes from deciding to go racing about 12 years ago. You can get about 10 years of street riding problems in ten minutes of racing :)

In the first two years I finished about 50 % of races. But by the end the bike had finished around 50 races without a DNF. When they say racing improves the breed they really do mean it.

have only seen one broken spring and it was not on a Norton but decided not to take any chances anyway. The issue is if the broken spring jams the wheel.

I drill a very small hole in the shoe just big enough for lock wire in a location with plenty of metal close to where the spring attaches to the shoe. Two holes in each shoe.

I use good quality lock wire. I loop the wire through the hole in one shoe then put it through the spring ensuring there is plenty of slack so the springs retain full expanded movement. Then lock the wire off in the matching hole in the other shoe. Then if the spring breaks it cannot fall and jam the wheel.

John

Will keep this in my shop gems file and appreciate the method's reasons now. Racing eh, my respects, they wish actors good luck with " Go out and Break a Leg", does "Break an Axle" apply here?

"What I want to know is when is someone going to market one piece high strength axles. I put stainless axles on my bike from Middlelton a few years ago & now hearing the stories I'm always thinking about them while riding hard. I would buy a one piece if it was sold."

In a few weeks the one piece axle will be available. If you break it I'll replace it free of charge.

Hello madass140 ,
Your products rock! I contacted you in the past regarding one piece axles .. I will be using a Commando Cush Drive wheel for my 850 Commando Powered 1962 slimline featherbed; will you be supplying the necessary spacers for this application? If your axles are ready I wold like to purchase one!
Best regards ,
Jon Wulf

By all means, be sure to let us know.

I have a mountain of parts being machined, the one piece axle has taken priority, hopefully this week or next,
I'll get an update later in the week.

$ is tight right now but I will surely want one in the near future.

I have suffered through three broken rear axles over the years. Put me down for a one piece axle as soon as they are available. Should you require authorization to work overtime I can arrange that. :D

Ugh your report supports me calling the splitting axles "radioactive". I can't pass up this safety feature after this additional reality check - so make one for my otherwise stock Trixie too. Hey she has aftermarket brake spring just in case too.

Put me down too! Never broke mine but I don't really want to be thinking about that when I'm out riding. Maybe I missed it earlier but what is the material?

Russ

they are stainless and will not break, there is no threaded part (weak point)inside the swingarm flanges.

July 21 is completion date of 1st batch of one piece axle kit, I havent got a price to give you yet, I'll update with shipping costs later,
