THe Red, Green and White, Ducati project has moved on and within the deal came 1975 Goldwing GL1000, With a "complete" spare non runner.....

Good project there Chris, going up in value too. I have huge respect for Honda personally (spent a day at their museum at Motegi a few years ago, awesome).

I like how someone has added 'lightweight' alloy rims... Talk about a drop in the ocean !!

Never understood those early Gold Wings myself, the engine looks like and engineering solution in search of a problem! Possibly a cancelled car engine project?
 
The alloy rims came stock on these bikes...As for the engine I think the concept was to get a low center of gravity...The actual fuel tank is under the seat on them...They feel very heavy at low speeds but are very agile at higher speeds...I own a 1977 model...The rough running may just be the points...A new set and the correct timing should set it straight...If it set any time at all with fuel in the carbs they will need cleaned(many small passages in there) ...And as a precaution would replace the cam belts....

Beach/Bill hit it on the nail.

I had a '76 and a '78. The '78 had an aftermarket manifold with a 2-barrel carb & electronic ignition, it would FLY.

Under the tank side cover....Bike has to be finely tuned to work..

:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: Yes i wondered WTF was that thing.... Dont have the manual yet so googled its location... Weird!!! But cool for tappet setting etc.
 
I recall my mother saying to me, "as soon as you get something, you pull it apart"... So i reckon most of the forum members are brother, in a way..

Just had to pull the head off LHS where smoke, missingish noise and rumblings were coming from... Found original gasket that looks very "used".. The pic you see is upside down (on bike) and that tunnel would run with at least half full of oil draining back to sump..RHS as you view the ex valve is smothered with oil from the HGasket leak.. I did notice a "lot" of oil dripping from crank case vent tube... So "puffing/venting" back into CCase is considered..
I check compression cold x 3 times each cylinder (with CRC squirt) and all averaged 145-152lbs.. So im happy with that.. Piston tops look great with a scrub and bores have honing hash marks visable. No perceivable ring wear to bore in squish space..

Therefore will remove RHS head which felt/sounded sweet, just cos i have to wait for the "Top end gasket kit".... Also will give all valves a clean n lap and bung it back together....

As Edd China would say, that looks Graunchy. I also have the take everything apart affliction. My 2 boys are also afflicted with it.
