Okay - Now I'm Confused

I had to remove the primary cover on my MK III to make a repair, but that is another story. I checked several posts about ATF vs regular oil for the primary case and wound up confused. What I think the consinsus was to use 20-50 oil in the primary cover because of the hydraulic chain tensioners, but the more I read, the more confused I was. Anyone want to weigh in on this one?

No ATF for you. Use engine oil for the reason you stated. Hydraulic chain tensioners.

I agree. No ATF in MkIII primaries.
