Oil pump resurfacing re wet sumping

This is one of the things I love about our Nortons. They take regular maintenance, and if given it, perform incredibly. If not, well, they become the subject of Brit-bike jokes.

Those jokes should really be about the neglectful owners.

Another point concerning the brass backing plate. Be careful when assembling it to the pump. Make sure that the inner edge of the brass plate (the long flat edge) doesn't sit higher than the machined mounting surface of the pump body (the side of the pump facing down in the above picture). If it does sit proud the pump will not seal properly with the crankcase (resulting in a gap between the two) causing swift wetsumping and loss of oil pressure/volume. $.02 R Model Tony
