Hello all, I've been using Don's OP warning light for over a season now and have been happy with it. It's behaviour has been consistent on my bike, only beginning flicker after a hot run, and fully illuminating when stuck in traffic.
I know there are wildly divergent opinions on the utility of the light vs a proper gauge etc.. so I sourced a gauge kit from a Cdn supplier a few weeks back (just the gauge, no fancy mounting bracket).
I decided to not mount the unit near the instrument clusters, partly because it seemed a bit out of place, and mostly because I didn't want something else to be staring at while riding, so I opted to mount it on the lower right frame tube just in front of the oil tank. This way I'm only tempted to look down when I'm stopped in traffic. The warning light in the headlamp shell will alert me to any catastrophic issues anyway.
I installed the gauge simultaneously with a freshly rebuilt pump from AMR, and after clearing/checking all oilways, OPRV etc... Cold start gives me 55psi, idling after initial warm up she levels out around 20 psi (900 rpm idle). After hot run she drops to 10-15 psi at idle, and Don's warning light begins to flicker around 12 psi, fully illuminated at 10 psi. Currently running synth straight 50W here in the hot Cdn summer (yes, it gets hot up here in the summer)
Here's the mounted gauge
Here are my readings at idle after initial warm up
