I modified the oil line routing slightely on my 850MkII. I turned the oil line junction block upside down and bent the tubes so the hoses go past the gearbox.

It all seems to be working well, I see normal oil return flow at the oil tank, bike is runnning well. And it just looks awesome.

Now what I am wondering....I have only seen this mod on my mate's Norton and I could only find one or two older threads about this topic on here. Considering how simple it is and how great it looks (IMHO), why is it so rare? Am I missing something and it is actually technically not sound? Yes, the hoses are a bit longer now but I cannot imagine this being an issue. With the oil junction block upside down the holes still seem to be aligned. What am I missing?

It’s a nice clean look for sure.

Is it possible oil will drain back from the pump quicker?

Cheers,

cliffa.

That looks clever. Never knew it was reversible. Any issues, i.e. cleaning or ?

I agree it looks clean. Kind of wonder why Norton didn't do it that way at the factory; at a glance I can't think of any ill effect. Might do it myself!

Wait... aren't the two tubes/hoses a different size? Yeah, I COULD go out in the garage and look but it's early and I'm relaxing with my first cup of coffee...

Same size on any Cmndo I have seen so far.

One is spigoted (interference fit and pressed in) to stop the junction block rotating or misalignment when fitting.

The holes are the same size though.

i made an oil block to rum the oil lines upside down on a chopper I built in 2005. It has run over 40,000 miles with no issues so i would say you are safe with what you did

Nice clean look, and the hoses are out of the way for adjusting the GB. Might have to do that on mine.

I see no problems from a fluid dynamics standpoint. Slightly longer hoses = insignificant more fluid friction ..... nothing to worry about. The head pressure from the oil tank is exactly the same.

On my Atlas, the mounting pad is oval, with more area on one side of center ..... that might cause a sealing problem at the interface, but not likely insurmountable.

I have been contemplating mounting an oil cooler, but have been mulling over hiding the oil lines. This idea may help in that regard.

so i can see this would be fine on the supply run from the oil tank to the engine but really screws up the routing to the oil filter which has the pipettes on top. how did you deal with those?

It looks great in the photos, but is that an oil shut-off tap that is hiding behind the kickstart?

Yep thats right. I have a short hose coming up from the oil filter, then sideways with an elbow fitting to the engine.

Someone had to make this comment....I have a special system though so I cannot forget to turn it on....nuff said

I did that for my oil cooler in front. My block is off an old Atlas and it had provision to move one of the tubes to a blanked off outlet on the bottom. So now one line points down to go to the front oil cooler and the other line stays as original pointing up to the oil tank.
