I recently changed my motor oil (RedLine synthetic 20W50) and gearbox oil (RedLine synthetic 90W) and have developed a few oil leaks around my gearbox. These may simply be due to the fact that the bike has not run much in the last 10 years and is now getting fired up on a weekly basis.

One source of the (light) leaks are the two "spindle bolts" on the forward side of the gearbox. These are #s 26 on the parts diagram. I see that they have O-Rings and I was considering replacing these and/or using some gasket sealant to stop the leaks. Does anybody know if I can remove these safely with the gearbox in the bike, or will something drop into the box upon removal, leading me down a bad road?

Thanks!

Hmmm...I'm running a dry belt drive right now (any idea how to maintain that? It was on my bike when I got it).

Not sure if I have enough clearance to get the bolts out. Any idea on torque settings when I put them back in?

if the gearbox leaks only happened after an engine oil change check you havnt over filled the oil tank as the engine breather will put oil into air filter and drip onto gear box
easy way to check wipe your hand on bottom of air cleaner an see if you have oil dripping
