Oil in aorbox question

Hey guys and gals, I'm posting this on behalf of my father who owns a 2014 961 sport.

About a year ago he learned of the issue the hard way. Under hard braking, oil sloshed into the airbox and into the engine causing quite a bit to be ingested by the engine producing a large cloud if white smoke.

He turned the bike over to the dealer, but only rode it for about 100 miles since it came back from servicing. He was told to keep the oil barely visible on the dip stick, however the service department never told him of the oil drain pipe in the airbox. Leading up to yesterday...

I rode the Commando yesterday, and had the same thing happen again. Hard braking, engine quit, tons of smoke when I started it, and it rode home fine.

I figured out what the issue was, drained the oil out, etc... However the filter was just soaked in oil. I'm having a hell of a time finding a replacement filter element. Does anyone have one they can recommend? Or, if push comes to shove, a way I can clean the filter out and return it to service?

Thanks guys! It's an interesting quirk, but one that I'm sure can be figured out.

Hi USCav153

have a read on this site
there are plenty of oil /air-box topics to choose from

The air filter is under the seat and is the CLEAN-able type. I use the K&N cleaning kit which is a cleaning solution, then air dry (or sun dry) then mist with oil and replace.

Yes many owners have the oil in the air-box issue.

You have a couple of options

order the air-box oil fix kit from Norton or your dealer

or get into the habit of pulling the plug on the air-box drain after every ride

Don't discard the oil ,collect it in a container and when you have 250ml then replace with same amount of new oil back into oil tank.

cheers

Pingu-nz nailed it.

And not seeing oil on your dipstick is BAD advice.
Read my "oil change" manual and "oil in airbox" manual

If you don't have, get me your email and I'll send. .

OR order directly from Norton Motorcycles England. And clean and dry the one you've got , like you would a K&N filter. Just like pingu-nz said .
