oil drooling out of air filter

On my '70 Commando the (central ) oil tank breather blows into the air filter. Eventually, the air filter can't hold any more oil, it drips out and makes a mess. Mainly it drips on the alternator and horn wires and makes the insulation brittle. Having just installed a new wiring harness, I'm wondering if there is a way to eliminate the drip besides running the engine breather line to a catch bottle. Any ideas ?

On my 71 I noted the same thing, esp. if you over fill the oil tank. I blocked the entrance to the air cleaner and ran the tube straight down into the air stream under the bike ala draft tube. Cut a 45 on the hose end with the closed end pointing forward and you get free draft/venting of the oil tank which also gets the crankase venting so it is important to let your wind gang free.

That's an old story. Rebuilding my '69 I am going to try to take the timed breather up and out the back into a catch bottle. I remember it would drip all over the GB and I could not tell where the oil was coming from other than that dang hole. The other option is to tap that dang hole in the oil box and route it through the airbox somehow and get it onto the road. OSHA would not approve, but neither would BP at this point. Maybe we could just send it all to the Gulf. UGH.

Don't overfill your oil tank and it shouldn't do that.
