I joined the forum back in September so this issue may already be in an older thread. I purchased a '14 Sport with 259 miles on the clock shortly before I joined. Even though the scoot only had 259 miles on it I changed the oil and filter as soon as my supplies arrived. Not a lot of miles on the oil but it was 18 months based on the bike's build date. After that first oil change I noticed that there was about 6 inches of frame backbone behind and below the rear oil line that travels down to the oil pump. I changed the oil again today to see how much metal particulates settled out of the drained engine and tyranny oil after an additional 500 miles of riding. Glad to see very little. I closed everything up except that rear oil line. I then wired tied a small plastic oil drain pan to the bike's exhaust under the motor. I have a motorcycle lift in my shop that stands 8 inches from the floor when completely collapsed. I rolled the rear wheel of the bike up on the lift to see how much additional oil drained out of that last six inches of the frame backbone through the back line. At first I was suprised to see only a few drops. Then when I rolled the bike off the lift oil began to run from the line. Did that twice and drained an additional 1/2 quart of dirty oil out of the frame. Took 3 1/2 quarts to refill with the filter being changed as well. As I suspected that back end of the frame does not drain when the bike is level. It's a pain in the ass to do but does appear to get more dirty oil out of the system.

Interesting!

Maybe easier to suck it out with a syringe and length of tubing?

Hello Gchoppin , You can do the same thing but use the front oil cooler line as well to drain it while leaving the back end raised up. There are large holes drilled into the frame back bone that allow the oil tank to use the back bone tube as well for more capacity. This can be seen in the Norton Canada Facebook video " When Peter H. visits the Norton factory " . You should have a look before they take it down. There are some camera angles that allow you to see the inner workings of frame and oil tank. I took this photo when I was at Norton last year .
