Numbers on cylinders

Question, i just noticed there is a number stamped on the cylinder section of my 750 right at the bottom rear where it bolts to the bottom end. It's a 5 digit number, and doesn't match the motor/frame number. What is that if anything? also on the left hand side in the same spot was a logo of sorts, now of course i've driven home and forgot the name, it began with a B

I expect you mean the casting number (note that it isn't the barrel part number)? Was it 24237 ?

That'll probably be "BIRCO" then (the name of the foundry where it was cast).
