I'm new to the site, but not to Nortons. I bought my 72 Combat Commando new in 1973. I went to the shop looking for a Triumph but when I saw the yellow Combat Norton sitting on the floor for the same price ($1,475) the decision was clear. I still have the bike and ride it. I've sorted all the Combat problems long time ago. Just found this site while researching my new 75 e-start basket. Nice site. The 850 is my 4th Norton, 51 Inter, 70 "S", 72 Combat are the others, there are some more but non nortons DBD34, Husky, CZ, and my only Jap bike a DT 250 Yammie. I look forward to this site and hope I can contribute and learn. If you don't belong to the INOA (USNOA when I joined #585) check it out. http://www.inoanorton.com/

ALL RIGHT, FRESH MEAT! Impressive resume. You're Hired.
You are sooo welcome here. :)

A Combat changed my life and times only since '99, but to me I want nothing else but Norton's cream of their crop. Tell us some tales and send us some color glossies to view, like friends sharing photo's of wives eh.

Yeah man, black on yellow they say can kill a fello if a snake or the yellow jacket motif when flying! Too bad they don't come with rev limiter.

Welcome to the forum. Post some pics and dive right in. Lets get some stuff right out front...

1.) Do you have an unbendable opinion about the Tri Spark ignition?
2.) Do you think you are the only person who knows how to properly line a fiberglass tank?
3.) Do you think that the intelectual process used to buy your favorite brand of oil is superior?
4.) Do you think that your choice of tires is correct because you are one of the few Norton owners on the planet who actually rides the bike the way it is intended?
5.) Are you prone to exagerated claims of speed and daring-do?

If you answered yes to 3 or more of these questions you will fit right in!

Welcome, and congrads on ridding the Norton all these years. Only requirement for joining is you have to post pictures of the International, & maybe the goldstar too.

Hi MGL,

Good to have another combat owner on here. I also bought a '72 combat roadster in '73 (had 300 miles on it and cost $1200...black of course). Are you east coast? Not much INOA activity in California. USNOA member #4703, '85-'86.

1 dumped my Rita for points cause I can fix htem roadside. May try a Trispark
2 Hope Caswell does the job
3 Castrol most of the time ( maybe 80k miles but been throught 3 or more speedos)
4 K81's Did the Dragon in 82 at a USNOA rally and finished 2nd behind a MV America

i know of two Norton fiber tanks and one steel one coated with 2 part Caswel sealer 7 yr is use now no problemo. Especially my friends tiny HyRyder tank that must stop and take on what ever is in the pump. Its been to Ohio and back to Arkansas and takes two gas stops in city 50 mile away with 10% booze gas most places. Also strengthens tanks to impact we both have found. I use greased wood dowels screwed in past tap treads, but plan on a couple hours to moving tank around till sealed sets up to stay in mostly even layer. Best to do two or more thinner layers I'm told but me a friend are lazy hicks so just did a decent thick one layer job.

As with most of us with the afliction I have more projects than runners. I've had the Inter and Goldstar projects for 25 yrs, kids and college got in the way but thats done now. Told the wife I'll sell the current 75 e-start project to pay for the Inter and GS resto , but I hate to sell bikes. What should I do?

Sell everything to get the best looking and running 750 and use left overs to ride to rally's as often and far away as possible and not miss out on the best there is in motorcycling joy. An Interstate tank and seat make any 750 long ranger delight.
Well maybe not the clip on cafe's but hey cable and new bars can have it all.

Have to smile at this. Related story... 1980 first time out in a new Jeep CJ5 on the Rubicon Trail (very rugged). An old timer commented I shouldn't be out there with power steering as it could fail. My response was - with that attitude he should be crank starting his Jeep. :)

Nice bike!

Can we start discussing the blueing on the downpipes now or would that be rude :D :D

PS My blueing matches yours and am forever defending myself against claims of running a bike way too rich....
