Not a good start to the season and my weekend. Was taking bike for MOT yesterday and got all of 100m from my house when it made a bang and lost power. Checked everything and nothing obvious. Hit the starter and turned over first time. Put in gear and no forward movement and engine stalled. Kit off and 100m push However, when doing so the there was a rubbing noise from what I thought was the rear axle but turns out to be the primary cog and the chain is loose. Above my pay grade So off the to the master, Stu Bodycote in a van .
 
might be the rear chain front drive sprocket coming loose, which can partially jam the gearbox. It has happened to others.

Yea , That's it. Front Sprocket . It is very easy to check , Just the 3 bolts holding the cover . Don't loose the ball bearing between the clutch slave and the push rod. I'm sure Stu will use loctite and the lock tab washer.

The manual states 122nm and blue thread lock. To be honest, I've always done 122nm and used green thread lock, along with a new locking tab. As per the FB thread, I'll get one posted out to you chap...not had chance to get to the post office today as I've been busy in the workshop.
 
Thanks to everyone for their help. Test fitted it whilst waiting on Stuart getting to the post office. No rush since I won't be able to work on it til next weekend. Found that the chain had mashed the threads so the bolt will not go on. Under Stuarts guidance I have ordered a thread file. Everything all cleaned up and ready for the refit.

Is green stronger or wicking type ? Is this three bond or Loctite ?

Red is the stronger loc tite for fasteners. Green is for sleeves and bearings or press fit.
 
Threebond do two green locktights, with the bearing dedicated one having a B at the end. Green I was understanding to be highstrength, wicking?
 
As most know I've been banging on about this repeatedly as a 50p tab washer can spoil your riding career for good and at the very least damage your gearbox for which there are currently no spares. It is so easy to fix with an improved tab washer ,eg from Ollie, and Loctite. Even New New Norton acknowledge the problem and have a new one designed. Anyone who thinks they will be ok and they must get round to checking it some time maybe never please don't put it off. It doesn't need a Norton specialist to sort (but it helps, eh Stu?).

After I told them of this problem one of their engineers was tasked with sorting it so don’t know if it is an off the shelf or special.
 
It was a known issue for years. Thread locking them on seemed to do the trick. Every service I do, I remove the clutch slave to do what I call a clutch push rod service (strip, clean, inspect and regrease all components, to save that ball bearing burrowing into the aluminium cap that goes on the slave cylinder piston), so I visually check the nut for signs of movement at that point ie tab washer condition and white pen witness mark alignment. The tab washers we were using when I was in engine build differed to some Ive seen posted on here too ie different to TonyA's posted picture, and more like the one's Ollie supplied. Has anyone seen the later one's have an issue?
When I moved over into service, I started keeping a log of known concerns, and having regular meetings with the design engineers, this was very late on in the SG era..so nothing became of it. I still have that same log.

Funny enough putting it all back together now

It’s gotta be ready for Andover Nortons open day Graham , & that’s for any one else to , few of us are meeting up there on Saturday 21st May
