Haven't you all seen the "Evel Knievel" movie? Evel (played by George Hamilton) rides his P-11 up the stairs of the girls' dormitory. if George Hamilton can do it, anybody else should be able to dot it, too!

"Water powered radiator" - what a neat thing! How does it work? Water wheel?

The lift is a one piece ram that runs off of pressure from the water main. The controls consist of a chain going to a proportioning valve. Pull the chain clockwise and you get full water pressure to the ram and the elevator goes up. Pull the chain counter clockwise and the water flow bypasses the ram, the ram loses pressure, and down you go. If you want to stop the lift at floor you have to find a balance point between up and down movement. I've come back to the elevator more than once to find I didn't get it right and the elevator continued it's trip to the top floor. If you're not careful you could find yourself walking down an empty elevator shaft.

How best way to get Crazy up my apt . stairs ? 13 stairs up total 15 ft. , 41 " width. Did it last winter with 4 huffing puffing guys ,crowding due to lack of width, removed tank, battery ,seat and exhausts for that one. 7 1/2 ft. from top stair and 9 1/2 ft. up is a possible place to affix a pulley to take off some weight and someone can pull on the rope to help bring up. A friend said to buy a "come-a-long". Going back down in spring was a breeze ,just down stairs using front brake and gravity. Ideas ?

Torontonian, I think I may have found the solution to your lifting problem..

Ms. Right??

Well, I was the one to recommend using able-bodied men and pretty women to get the bike up the stairs...... But let me recommend you not attempt to integrate those two elements of the process...... The outcome is sometimes unexpected.

When I was a kid growing up I spent a lot of time in Los Angeles with my older sister and a lot of artists had huge amazing lofts that took entire floors of buildings. A lot of people had bikes in there "living spaces" now it's all gentrifide and a gazzilion $'s a square inch. I can't imagine it's to cheap in SF. As far as the stairs go, Cary it. I road down a flight of them in a public park once, young & stupid. It cracked the rear diff case on a Moto Guzzi !!! Not to mention I had to have a long unpleasant chat with a local cop... Youth. It's so waisted on the young.

We have had several Art lofts in this city, big and cheap, never for long as the developers find out and start evicting,4 evictions for us, hauling Art and 3 Nortons in various states of assembly-disassembly ,have always paid the rent, now all warehouses here sandblasted ,upgraded and sold to the "Porsche and Ponytail " crowd. A developer I reluctantly met coined that phrase ,then asked where we artists were moving to next, and if we were excited about the new project. Nearly threw up on his Gucci's. We are more secure now under an arts umbrella developer with a mandate to help artists as priority one ,our studio is in a historic streetcar repair depot. As for Norton up the stairs I have a corner of the coachhouse down the street until spring. This gives me a year to find pretty girls, beer for the bar (afterwards),willing friends and develop - test the pulley or small electric winch system. Shot up to 6 Celcius today so threw the battery back into Crazy and did a few chores about town . Tomorrow the same ,then 3 Bands for New Years Eve. On January 7 th I will be manning the Ontario Norton Owners displaybooth at the World's Biggest Motorcycle Show. Our theme this year will be Cafe Racers.
