Hi

I have a Norton Mark 3 Commando Interstate Tank painted in black and gold along with the sided panels in perfect condition. I want to respray it Candy Apple Red, firstly does anybody know an off the shelf colour match or. Is there anybody out there that would like to swap my black one for a red one as it seems a shame to spray something that Is perfect already.

Kind regards

Martin

Martin,

This is an international forum, better response if we know where you are based?

Welcome to the forum Mayhew!

Can you post some photos of your tank & Side covers? ...and are they steel?

If you want to, either send me your email address or email me at trident.sams@virgin.net
and I can forward the info I got from Tobin on this site about candy apple red. His bike looks great and he gave me the info that his painter used to paint his candy apple red.
I have an original Mk 111 Interstate tank and side panels, that I would be prepared to swap for black stuff, mine is good, but certainly not perfect.

Id not do a repaint if it is good condition original, Id swap or sell.
It is only original once!

Be careful, a Candy apple red tank may come from a MKIIA the tank, though looking the same is different in capacity and method of securing to a MKIII tank. Trident sam's offer may be a good place to start as it is known MKIII tank.
There was someone on here, Marinecommado I think, who sent his tank and side panels to the US and got a superb paint job, for £200 less than it would have cost here in the UK. If this method is used you need to let HMRC know you are shipping it out and expecting to get it back later, otherwise you may be liable for charges on the whole job!
If all else fails, someone must have the mix code for the Candy apple red by now, just take it to the sprayer and they should be able to source the paint from the supplier who will be able to mix it for them. Off the shelf colours are pointless for anyone other than Halfrauds, automotive paint suppliers will mix quantities down to 100cc for supply to the sprayer, using the code supplied - they may even have the equipment to analyse a section of existing paint and determine the code as well.
