Norton gearbox powering a vintage 1917 lathe...

Saw this in a British amateur machinist magazine (Model Engineer's Workshop), the articles author used the Norton gearbox to convert a vintage 1917 lathe from flat belt to v belt drive and gained another gear in the process....very cool and FWIW the lathe is an American made Hardinge.

Be interesting to see the other end of it, the business side of things as it were.

Makes a change from seeing engines powering wood saws, or lawn mowers or tractors !

I doubt many speeding fines have been issued to drivers of those tractors over the years!

Is that a concern ? !!
Tractors usually go round and round, slowly, in fields.

Raw slogging power is probably quite a suitable choice (?).

Because its not actually fitted in that shot.

Amazing what a nice coat of paint can do, if the rest of it has been done to the same standard must be good.
Lathes can be terribly worn, and not show it....
