I have a fibreglass tank on my 1971/72 Norton, that I am in the process of restoring. What options do I have for ordering a Steel or Alloy tank?

I am not doing an original restoration, I am more or less just building a bike. Has anyone used a different tank other than a Norton tank on these bikes? Just weighing my options. My bike is supposed to go for paint next week, but if I can find another tank, I can put off paint for another couple weeks.

Thanks!

Many sources out there but the cheapest may be e-bay but if your wallet is thicker many Norton suppliers will be happy to find you the desired steel or aluminum upgrade.Peter.

The fiberglass tanks are fine if you don't put any ethanol in them. If you don't have ethanol in your gasoline in Newfoundland fiberglass will be fine. If you plan on riding where no non-ethanol is available I'd recommend changing to a metal tank. Lining a glass tank seems to be dodgy, at best.

I am pretty sure our Shell gas has no Ethanol, the V-Power stuff anyway. I might try it out for a bit, and if I end up with problems, I will have to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

I would just like to know what the other options are. I have been on eBay and seen the Indian and Pakistani Roadster replicas. Would something like a Norton 15H or 16H tanks fit? Or possible any tank from a Triumph or BSA?

Just trying to see what the options are.

You'll know the gas has affect a fiberglass tank when you see blistering in the gel coat. I held out as long as I could before switching to a steel tank.

I suppose you can modify any tank to fit your Commando, but easiest best fit is to use a tank made for the machine. 15H (no such model) 16H and Triumph do not fit.
