Well I got my delivery of Norton porn today, box from JS Engineering contained 2 sexy Carrillo conrods, a pair of JE forged 77.5mm 9:1 pistons with the special diamond coat gudgeon pins and rings with Total Seal second ring set. I would like to endorse Jim Schmidt as a true gentleman to deal with. I konw, I have not even installed the gear yet, but the quality of the stuff is PURE!
So the cases have been cleaned up and bead blasted, we have a blaster at work, so I made an early start and got the job done before work started. Barrel has come back from Competition Coating, got the shiny black ceramic treatment. And I dropped this off to my machinist so he can bore her out to match the pistons with a 5.5 thou finished clearance. He has the head which he recoiled one stud that had pulled and blasted to feshen it up. Guides ar still perfect from last recent build, valves were not so good with strange seat wear. So I have some Black Diamond valves comming.
Next shipment of goodies will have the FAG superblends, valves and springs, fulll Andover gasket seat. So the old girl is getting a big 36th Birthday. She has 23000 miles showing now, I became her keeper at 14000 and at that stage I gave the bike a restoration, but upon engine strip, I decided at that stage it was prudent to get some more miles on the bore before spending. back then I just replaced the bigend shells and rings, after stripping thr crank to clean the sludge trap. That was back in 2006.
Just pulled the bearing races off the crank, that was fun, but finally wored out how to use my bearing puller on the races, and get a grip on the little groove. Split the crank angain and found a little teaspoon full of mud in the sludge trap recess.
I expect with the with the Total Seal and fresh bores she will run a lot cleaner down stairs than before. So should get at least another 25000 before looking in there again.

Well, give me a month os so and I will have her back together and will give my report on the lightweight pistons?

Cheers Richard :D

Right on, Richard.

Jim indeed knows his stuff. He's got a lot of other cool stuff out there too. I've had nothing but checkered flags since putting his kit in my race bike.

Keep us posted on your build.

Are you going to use Jim's lifters as well? Forget the photos, we want a video of the assembly!
