Hi all
Got several questions concerning Atlas Hubs

1. What is the documented offset?
2. I’ve read that they measure 9” but mine measure 8” inside ( where the brake pads go) and 10” flange to flange( where the spokes fasten). How is this measured?
3. What is meant by a full width hub?

all of this in anticipation of buying a new front alum shouldered rim and having it drilled at the correct angle

thanks

Don Pender does pre drilled shouldered rims in Atlas and Commando sizes 18"/19" WM2 / 1.85 inch with stainless steel spokes.

Buchanan Spoke can make your rim dreams come true. Just tell them what you have. They have fit rims on just about everything on two wheels out there.

1) I don’t have a value here- but I have always measured my old wheels laying flat on a table as a reference before rebuilding them. Buchannon’s can likely give you a number if your hubs are already stripped. Failing that, you can center the wheel in the chassis upon reassembly and before final truing

2) I always thought this was a reference to the inside diameter of the drum- now I have to pop out to the shop and measure……

3) A full width hub means just that- the spokes are very close to equal length as the hub and drum are the full width of the space. The Atlas hub is like that. Here is an example of a hub that decidedly isn’t full width, from an XT500 Yamaha:

Meh, they sent me the wrong stuff for my wheel, lecturing me on how much they knew better than me. Twice. In the end I got sick of it and had to file down the too-long spokes, not fun. It was an absolutely bone-stock '73 Commando front hub for god's sake.

1. Offsets https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/rgmnorton/fs/pdf/wheel_offsets.pdf

Note they do vary a bit, correct way is to run to offset and then adjust with the front rim being central to the sliders and the rear being in line. To get the rear done fully you need to upend the bike so get the front right and then use the nominal offset for the rear.

2. 8" is the brake size, 9 and 10 are other dimensions.

3. Full width means the hub is the sameish size across the full width. A stronger but heavier hub than 1/2 width.

That is no fun for the prices they charge. My experience was different. The full width rear hub on a P11 has straight pull spokes and is a much simpler hub to work with. I did have to send them pics of both the original steel rim and the hub as well as provide spoke length and diameter. Spokes are all the same length. I would say it all ended up close enough.

If I had an Atlas Don's rim, hub, and brake parts would be hard to pass up, because they are bolt-on and look great.
